Early College Cohort Pathway

Lexington Two's Early College Cohort Pathway, in partnership with Midlands Technical College, allows students to take free college courses, with an opportunity to earn an associate degree and potentially enter a 4-year college or university with as much as half of their bachelor's degree already completed.

Students receive credit for the college courses they take on BOTH their high school and college transcripts. These courses count as AP/Dual Credit courses on the high school transcript and therefore receive an additional weighting when calculating the GPA.

What can you do with an associate degree?

The A.A. or A.S. enables students to get a jump on college and enter a four-year college or university with as much as half of the bachelor's degree requirements already completed at no cost to students.

  • The MTC Associate in Art program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college majoring in business, humanities, education, or social sciences.
  • The MTC Associate of Science program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college majoring in computer science, engineering, health sciences, mathematics, or science.
  • Students can also tailor their A.A. or A.S. degree program to meet their post-secondary career plans and immediately enter the world of work right after high school.

Who is eligible?

Students participating in the Early College Cohort begin their dual enrollment journey during the summer AFTER their freshman (9th grade) year. Since cohort students take dual credit coursework during the fall, spring and summer semesters, participation requires a 3-year commitment.

Eligible students should be prepared for a rigorous academic experience, have developed study skills, time management skills, and the discipline needed for college-level coursework, and also be prepared to meet eligibility requirements.

How does this work with the high school schedule?

Approved dual credit courses earn both high school units of credit and college credit hours. Therefore, many DE courses can count towards a SC High School Diploma Graduation Requirements, and directly affect high school the high school grade point average (GPA). In accordance with South Carolina state regulation, students may earn one credit unit toward the high school diploma for each approved three‐semester hour college course they successfully complete.
