Registration deadline is March 12 for 2021-22 Early College/dual enrollment programs

WEST COLUMBIA, SC  -- Registration is now open for two programs for Lexington Two high school students interested in earning college credits -- at no cost -- during the high school day during the 2021-2022 academic year.

 

Registration runs through March 12 for the Early College Freshman Cohort (for current 9th graders) or the Early College/dual enrollment (for current 10th- and 11th-graders)/

Last year, Lexington Two’s Class of 2020 took 251 college courses and earned 796 college credits while in high school.

EARLY COLLEGE FRESHMAN COHORT

(For current ninth-grade students/rising 10th-graders)

 

The district’s Early College program, in partnership with Midlands Technical College, allows students to take free college courses, with an opportunity to earn an associate degree and potentially enter a 4-year college or university with as much as half of their bachelor's degree already completed. 

 

The program requires a three-year commitment, including summers. Students must meet Midlands Technical College requirements for college level courses.

 

In the 2020-21 school year, six Lexington Two students earned Associate in Art or Associate in Science diplomas, including one who received both  (minimum of 62 college credits earned and 119-plus college courses taken).  Eighteen students earned General College Studies Certificates (minimum 18 college credits earned, 6-plus college courses taken); 28 students earned Early College Scholar recognition (minimum 18 college credits, 6-plus college courses taken, with at least a 3.0-plus grade point average).

 

EARLY COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT 

(For current 10th- and 11th-graders/rising 11th- and 12th-graders)

 

Eligible students can take two college courses each semester of their junior and senior years of high school, with the courses counting as both college and high school credit. Students can complete as many as 8 college courses and earn 24 college credits. 

 

Students must meet Midlands Technical College requirements for college level courses.

 

The application period for both programs runs through March 12.
