WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Lexington Two high school students and their families are invited to join a virtual meeting to learn more about two programs for the 2021-22 academic year that offer opportunities to earn college credits -- at no cost -- during the high school day.
Last year, Lexington Two’s Class of 2020 took 251 college courses and earned 796 college credits while in high school.
EARLY COLLEGE FRESHMAN COHORT
(For current ninth-grade students)
On Wednesday, February 24 at 6 p.m., Dr. Dixon Brooks, Lexington Two’s Chief Instructional Officer, and Judi Bledsoe, the district’s Early College Coordinator, will host a Zoom meeting for parents/guardians of current ninth-graders to provide details about participating in the Lex 2 Early College Freshman Cohort Program.
The district’s Early College program, in partnership with Midlands Technical College, allows students to take free college courses, with an opportunity to earn an associate degree and potentially enter a 4-year college or university with as much as half of their bachelor's degree already completed.
The program requires a three-year commitment, including summers. Students must meet Midlands Technical College requirements for college level courses.
The application period for the Early College program is February 24-March 12.
In the 2020-21 school year, six Lexington Two students earned Associate in Art or Associate in Science diplomas, including one who received both (minimum of 62 college credits earned and 119-plus college courses taken). Eighteen students earned General College Studies Certificates (minimum 18 college credits earned, 6-plus college courses taken); 28 students earned Early College Scholar recognition (minimum 18 college credits, 6-plus college courses taken, with at least a 3.0-plus grade point average).
EARLY COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT
(For current 10th and 11th grade students)
On Saturday, February 27 at 10 a.m., the district will host a Zoom meeting for parents/guardians of current 10th and 11th grade students to provide details about participating in the dual enrollment program. Eligible students can take two college courses each semester of their junior and senior years of high school, with the courses counting as both college and high school credit. Students can complete as many as 8 college courses and earn 24 college credits.
Students must meet Midlands Technical College requirements for college level courses.
The application period for the dual enrollment program is February 27-March 12.
